In early 2013, the original Hummingbird Zipline Course opened in Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama, featuring a seven-zip-line course which was voted the #1 attraction on the Gulf Coast for three years in a row by TripAdvisor reviewers. After four very successful years and nearly 60,000 elated zip line guests, the State canceled the company’s 12-year concession contract without cause, forcing it to cease operation in late 2016.
In early 2017, the owners successfully negotiated an agreement to relocate the course to The Wharf, an upscale mixed-use Development and Entertainment District in Orange Beach, Alabama, just three miles from the former location. The towers were then dismantled and the components trucked to The Wharf where construction began in late spring of 2017. The new, higher and faster course now features an eighth zip line covering over 6,000 feet, nearly twice as long as the previous location. With heights of up to 115 feet and speeds of over 30 mph, participants soar on a two hour tour over pristine bays, the Intracoastal Waterway and through a federally-protected wetland, beginning and ending just off of The Wharf’s Main Street.
With this move, the course retained virtually all of the core staff, including its general manager, course manager, media manager, guest services manager and its managing partner. This seasoned management team provides its guests with an even higher level of value, enjoyment, excitement, and sense of achievement for both new and returning participants alike.
